The Lightkeepers team has developed programs to address the harassment of dolphins in the wild, including the Dolphin SMART program which was developed with NOAA NMFS, National Marine Sanctuaries, and dolphin tour operators.
Lightkeepers has also organized and consolidated rewards for incidents of vandalism against bottlenose dolphins in Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, including dolphins that have been shot with arrows, bullets, and fatally stabbed with metal objects, such as screwdrivers.
A review of incidents of harassment and vandalism authored by Courtney Vail, and documenting dolphin fatalities, can be found here.
